SAP Business One is central to SAP’s efforts to develop the SME marketplace and is SAPs best-selling ERP solution by number of customers. Development plans for version 10 extend out as far as 2017. Beyond that there will be a version 11.

Recent Innovations

The following are some of the key recent developments in SAP Business One.

Web Client

  • A new look and feel based on the SAP Fiori (see notes) design system.
  • Scope of the web client continues to grow and now includes the following business processes:
    • Company configuration framework
    • Sales and purchasing documents
    • CRM, service, and timesheets
    • Payments and journal entries
    • Items and business partners master data
    • Inventory documents and bill of materials
    • Document drafts and approval processes
  • The web client includes powerful analytic capabilities that includes:
    • Sophisticated filtering in List View
    • A General Overview that presents multiple design cards in a dashboard style layout
    • User Defined Queries that can be presented via List View or as the data source for a Design Card in General Overview
    • The ability to export a view
    • The ability to email a link to any kind of view

Identity and Authentication Management

  • Enhanced security through multi-factor authentication
  • Single sign-on experience with leading identity providers Azure AD, ADFS, Okta, and SAP’s identity authentication service (beta)

Intelligent Automation

  • SAP have started the rollout of its generative AI Copilot known as Joule. Joule enables users to ask question in plain English and receive in-context and actionable responses

Core Product

The web client is being extended to more areas of the solution. In addition to being a more engaging user experience, the web client is part of SAPs vision to make SAP Business One a fully Cloud ERP.

Enhancements to the Outlook 365 integration are planned. There will also be further improvements resulting from market feedback.

Globalisation

Making Tax Digital support through SAP Document and Reporting Compliance.

Extensibility

SAP is continuing its investment in the extensibility of the solution through APIs. APIs facilitate real-time data transfer and are another example of SAP’s commitment to Cloud.

SAP Fiori is a design system developed by SAP to provide a consistent and user-friendly experience across all SAP applications. It focuses on simplifying the user interface and making it more intuitive and accessible, whether on desktop or mobile devices.
