Melton Renewable Energy UK PLC (‘MRE’) is one of the leading independent generators of renewable energy in the United Kingdom. The group owns and operates 5 biomass-fired power stations and operates from 25 landfill gas sites with a total net installed capacity of 174MW.
In common with many companies in this sector, MRE utilises Infor SunSystems software for financial reporting requirements.
With each business unit operating from a separate installation of SunSystems, each with a unique Chart of Accounts, a decision was taken to rationalise the use of SunSystems, upgrade to version 6.2 and enhance the reporting framework across the group.
Jamie Lawton, Group Reporting Manager, explains:
“From a financial reporting perspective we were operating as distinct business units on separate installations of SunSystems with unconnected Charts of Account. Group reporting placed a reliance on the use of Excel and manual intervention; inadvertently lengthening the process.”
There were challenging elements to this project, such as the move to a uniform Chart of Accounts and tight timescales. But, with LAKE’s help, MRE went live as planned and are now enjoying the benefits of the new system.

“Migration to a single installation of SunSystems version 6.2 as well as a consistent Chart of Accounts has enhanced the Group reporting process. We now have access to the Group’s financial data through Infor Q&A, expediting the process and improving our ability to perform timely and detailed analysis of the underlying data.”
